Privacy Policy
Velvet Alarm is an alarm app for iPhone and Apple Watch. Until the update that renames it, the app shows its old name, Wristwake, on your devices and on the App Store. This policy covers the app and this website.
Summary
The app collects nothing. Velvet Alarm reads your heart rate, sleep and wrist movement on your own iPhone and Apple Watch to wake you. That data is never sent to us or anyone else. There is no account, no ads, no tracking and no server. This website asks for your email address only if you request the subscriber gift (see below).
What the app uses, and why
- Health (read only): on your Apple Watch, Velvet Alarm asks to read two kinds of Health data, Heart rate and Sleep. At your wake time, the Watch reads your heart rate from the past night (to learn your resting level) and the latest readings (a rise helps tell that you are starting to stir), plus that night’s Sleep data for its record of the wake. On the iPhone, if Health access is on, Velvet Alarm reads only Apple’s sleep stages for the night of each alarm and passes them to your Watch to check its wake timing. The iPhone reads no heart rate, shows no sleep or heart-rate charts and saves none of it. Velvet Alarm never writes anything to Health.
- Motion (Apple Watch): the Watch senses wrist movement in the last 15 or 30 minutes before your alarm time, to notice when you start to stir. Raw movement data is not saved. Only short summaries are kept (see below).
- Alarms (iPhone): to schedule your alarm on the iPhone, so it rings at your time even if the Watch is off or away.
- Notifications: on the iPhone, to repeat a missed alarm 2 and 5 minutes later and for an optional bedtime reminder (off unless you turn it on). On the Watch, to ring an alarm you set there and to remind you to open Velvet Alarm.
Your Health data
- It is used only to wake you and to keep a record of how each wake went, on your own devices.
- It is never used for advertising or marketing.
- It is never sold, and never shared with us or any third party.
- It stays on your iPhone and Apple Watch. It moves only between those two devices, over Apple’s own iPhone–Watch connection.
What is kept on your devices
- iPhone: your alarm settings, repeat days, chosen sound, and a list of your mornings (when you woke and why). Kept until you delete the app.
- Apple Watch: for each alarm, movement and heart-rate numbers from the wake window, that night’s sleep stages copied from Health, and how the wake went. Only your last 30 alarms are kept: each time a new alarm starts on the Watch, older records are deleted.
- iPhone keychain: one date, the latest date the app has seen, so a free trial can’t be stretched by changing the clock. It holds nothing else. Keychain items can stay after you delete the app.
If you back up your iPhone (to iCloud or a computer), the backup can include your alarm settings and list of mornings, like any app’s data. Velvet Alarm never saves your Health data to iCloud. Apple protects those backups, and we can’t see them.
What we don’t do
- No accounts, no sign-in.
- No analytics, no ads, no tracking, no third-party SDKs.
- Nothing is uploaded: the app has no servers and no iCloud sync.
Purchases
Monthly and Yearly (each with a 7-day free trial, then renewing until you cancel) and the one-time “Unlock forever” are handled by Apple. We never see your payment details or Apple Account. The app only checks on your device which of these your Apple Account has. Cancel a subscription any time in Settings › your name › Subscriptions.
Subscriber gift and news emails (this website)
On this website you can ask for a subscriber gift: a personal App Store code for Velvet Alarm, sent by email. It is a welcome gift for joining emails from Sebastian Škoić s.p. about Velvet Alarm and our other apps, so you only get it if you agree to receive them. When you ask for it, we collect your email address, language, a record of your consent (when you gave it and which wording you agreed to), delivery and unsubscribe status, and the App Store code assigned to you. To prevent abuse and give each address the gift only once, we also keep keyed hashes (scrambled fingerprints) of your email and IP addresses.
We use this to send you the gift email, then occasional news and promo codes for Velvet Alarm and our other apps. Cloudflare runs this website and the form and stores the record, Brevo sends the emails and keeps the mailing list, and Cloudflare Turnstile checks that the request comes from a person. Apple processes the code when you redeem it.
- Legal basis. Your consent for the emails (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). For the abuse checks (the hashes and the security check), our legitimate interest in handing out the gift fairly (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- Withdrawing consent. You can withdraw it at any time with the unsubscribe link in every email or by writing to us. This doesn’t affect emails already sent, and a code you already received stays valid.
- How long we keep it. We keep your record while you are subscribed. When you unsubscribe, we remove your address from the mailing list and keep only the record of your request, so your unsubscribe is respected and the address can’t claim the gift again. You can ask us to delete it at any time.
This website
This website has no analytics, no ads and no tracking cookies. It remembers the language you pick, in your own browser only. Cloudflare hosts it and, like any web host, processes technical data such as your IP address to deliver the pages.
Turning access off and deleting your data
- Health: on your iPhone, Settings › Privacy & Security › Health › Velvet Alarm, or in the Health app: tap your picture › Apps › Velvet Alarm. You can turn Heart rate and Sleep off any time. Without them, your Watch uses movement only, and your iPhone alarm still rings.
- Motion: Velvet Alarm needs no Motion permission. It senses wrist movement only while a wake session runs. To stop it, turn off “Wake me a little earlier if I’m stirring”.
- Alarms and notifications: Settings › Apps › Velvet Alarm on your iPhone.
- Delete everything: delete Velvet Alarm from your iPhone and your Apple Watch. That removes all of its data, except the one keychain date above. Your Health data stays in Apple’s Health app, which Velvet Alarm never changed.
The app sends us no data about you, so for the app there is nothing for us to delete or hand over.
Children
The app collects no data from anyone, including children. The subscriber gift on this website is only for people aged 16 or older: if you are under 16, please do not sign up. If we learn that someone under 16 has signed up, we delete their email address.
Your rights
Email support@velvetalarm.com to access, correct or delete the email records we hold, restrict or object to their use, or receive them in a portable format. You can withdraw your email consent at any time, as described above. You also have the right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the EU or EEA country where you live or work, or in the UK to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). Data handled by Apple, such as purchase records, is governed by Apple’s policies.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update the effective date above and highlight material changes on this page before they take effect.
